I'm taking Shimelle Laine's September class, called Learn Something New Every Day, and our prompt for Saturday was to learn a new skill or try something we'd pinned on Pinterest, etc. I decided to try stamping with yarn wrapped around a wooden block and using paint; pin here.
First, I tried using thin embroidery thread and distress ink.
That's kind of an interesting look, but not very bold.
Next, I used yarn with acrylic paint. I spread the paint on the yarn with a popsicle stick. It was difficult to know how much to put on.
As you can see in the lower right corner, I had put on too much (if the end goal was to see the pattern of the strands of yarn.) I tried stamping in one direction and then the other, trying to get the pretty parquet floor pattern that the pinned site had shown. It didn't really work, because I couldn't see exactly where I was stamping. (It occurs to me that I should try this again sometime and wrap the yarn around an acrylic block . . . although mine are not perfectly rectangular.)
I kept stamping with that "load" of paint and then tried again with a little less paint applied.
