This picture was taken last summer, the weekend before I had to return to work from my maternity leave. We'd driven half an hour away to run some errands and when we were leaving to return home we saw that a grasshopper was on our windshield. Obviously we thought he'd blow off soon, but he hung on, like an immigrant crossing the ocean at the turn of the last century, and emigrated to our locale. I shot a couple of pictures of him on the roof of the car before he went his way and we went ours.
I like the different textures in this picture -- the soft plush bee atop the stiff bristles of the flower with smooth leaves in the background -- as well as the geometrics: the concentric circles of the cone, surrounded by the petals, each of which has lengthwise demarcations.
