Week in the Life 2011: Days Two through Five

Well, I started out the week well with posts and then completely disappeared.  Here are a few of the Instagram shots I'll use for one side of each day's section -- you can see what a down-to-earth week we're having, but of course that's part of the point of this project!

Layout: Fireflies

This is a layout I made for one of the challenges in the Design Challenges class I'm taking.  This patterned paper from October Afternoon literally came in the mail today -- I'd bought it specifically for this story.  The fairies are from Graphic 45's Once Upon a Springtime line.  

Day One: Week in the Life | Documenting

I'm going to do part of the "putting together" process while the week is going on (since I'm on vacation) and will do part of it at a later time when I get the 12x12 pages and prints made up.

I am loving Cathy Zielske's template (link in previous entry) for using camera pictures (I'm using the ones from my iPod Touch; the camera in it is probably similar to the previous version of the iPhone.)  She used free fonts (Honey Script and DejaVu-Sans) for the title, so I was able to download them and modify it. 

And We're Off! | Documenting a Week in the Life | Day One

I'm on vacation this week, which will make it easier to participate in Ali Edwards' Week in the Life scrapbooking project.  I was delighted to see that Big Picture Classes is offering a free "classroom" for the project -- it will be fun to see what others are doing.  The pictures above were taken with the iPod Touch camera using the Instagram app and then turned into a collage in Picasa.  I may or may not use the pictures this way when I actually compile it next week, but it's a good way to have something to post here.  [Edited to add: I succombed to tempation and decided to purchase Cathy Zielske's cool template to do this project with and now I'm excited.  It's got 12 slots for Instagram-type phone/ipod photos and small spots for journaling underneath.  I figure I'll have that be one page and do a page protector for the other.  The page protector can house additional journaling plus some 4x6 photos.  Perfect.  Simple.  No stress.]

Class Page | Design with Orange

I'm taking Elizabeth Dillow's class over at Big Picture Classes right now and one of her challenges to us was to create a page using the color orange.  I'll admit, I'm not sure I've ever made a page with orange as the dominant color before.  The closest I can recall is one with more of a terra cotta color background.  I think this worked well with the simple design, computer-generated journaling, and American Crafts paper and flowers.  It's not wildly exciting, but it is a page I've been wanted to make for a while.  

Week in the Life 2010: Finished!

I created a simple title page using the digital versions of Cosmo Cricket's Earth Love line (then accidentally let the printer print on "Draft" -- oh, well.)  I thought this little quote was perfect for this project.  

Each day features an 8 x 12 photo, a strip of patterned paper, and the date.  

I used a 6 x 12 page protector to house the journaling on one side and a strip of matching patterned paper on the other side.  I like how this looks when the page is turned (seen in the above photo.)

I then used a 4x6 page protector to house additional pictures that represent daily events and routines.

Then the next day is done in reverse: it begins with the 4x6 pictures (on the other side of the page protector shown above), then you see the 6x12 strip of paper in that size page protector, the journaling on the other side, and the 8x12 picture with date on the next right-facing page.  I used that alternating pattern throughout.  At the end I had one side of a photo page protector empty, so cut 4x6 pieces of patterned paper to fill those slots.

I'm still pondering how I will do this year's Week in the Life.  I might use the same format. . . or do it digitally. . . better decide soon!

A Week in the Life 2011 | Invitation to Join in the Fun

It's almost time for the fun project Ali Edwards leads via her blog each year called A Week in the Life. Given the template I'm using and the blog plan I have, I don't have the ability to post the banner permanently, so I'll just republish this post a few times. :)

Finishing up A Week in the Life 2010

I've mentioned here before that I participated in the Week in the Life project last summer (Ali Edwards' brainchild), taking pictures and journaling, but never put the project together.  I finally got pictures printed and began assembling the project.  I'll probably finish tonight. 

I am happy with the things that were captured, whether in words or photos, but I'm making mental note of things I'd like to do a little differently, too.  The journaling was primarily from my perspective, although I did get a few little girl quotes, but I had very little of my husband's perspective or activities, unless he was with me.  I'll make more of an effort to gather details of his day this year.  

The project will be significantly different for me this year anyway, since it won't take place during the school year and I've planned to take vacation time that week.  So hopefully I'll have more opportunities for interesting photo ops and will be a bit more excited about the variety of photos to choose from to print.  There were some true gems, certainly, but some days when I was busy, I ended up not taking very many, which limited my choices.

I really like the look of an image stamped on vintage papers, such as dictionary pages or sheet music.  I only have a few Copics, so didn't have enough colors to do various shades, but I think this is pretty anyway.  

It was coincidence that I happened to grab this scrap of paper for the card, but I was pleased to see that the definition of heaven is on it.
